Over the last 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work with some truly great individuals across three countries. The people that I have met and the projects we have done have shaped me into who I am today and I'm truly grateful for this. Below I have outlined some of those moments.
Teacher
I started my journey in design as a teacher at Malmo University's physical computing lab. There I taught courses in Interaction Design, Physical computing, Interactive light, and Fashion Technology. Basically, it was us in the lab together with the students exploring this new medium of interaction.
One of my prouder achievements was when I got the opportunity to work with the students at Domus Academy and the daughter of Achilles Castiglioni, a personal design hero, to reinterpret her father's creations through modern technology such as LEDs, microcontrollers and sensors. The work were exhibited at Salone del Mobile next to the original prototypes.
1scale1
This was a design studio I ran with four others for a couple of years exploring new interactions, building interactive installations and just immersing ourselves in the world of microcontrollers, sensors, and physical-digital. All while travelling the world sharing our knowledge.
One of the more memorable experiences was when I got to spend some time in San Sebastian as a prototyping expert during Interactivos 09. Working closely with the visiting artists we jointly explored their work and process, all culminating in an exhibition filled with new and exciting interfaces and experiences.
Tellart
This was a place that offered me a way into larger and more complex installation work. Working alongside our partners we created interactive installations for ad agencies, museums and for companies.
The largest piece of work that we took on was to explore the wonders of the Chrome Web browser together with the Google Creative Lab. It culminated in a year-long exhibit called Chrome Weblab and it was an exhibition in two parts. The first was a physical manifestation in the Science Museum of London while the second was available online. Everything was connected and you could experience and interact across the different domains. Parts of the exhibit were later acquired by the Smithsonian Museum and the work won numerous awards.
IDEO CHI
I started my journey at IDEO in the Chicago studio as a senior designer and team lead. Together with my colleagues, I worked closely with clients to explore a wide range of opportunities defining new interaction patterns, building products and exploring futures all through a strong human-centred design process.
Most of the work is under NDA but here you can see some snippets of what we were up to. One of my personal favourites was when I got to work to define a new diabetes platform, my partner is type 1 diabetic, making this work very personal and directly impactful for my loved ones.
IDEO MUC
I continued my journey at IDEO by moving to Europe and our Munich studio. At this stage, I became a design director focusing on digital design. Together we built out our team of designers, leading them in their day-to-day work and most importantly working closely with our clients to launch products into the market.
It was here I got the chance to develop my first design system from start to finish and I also started to lead our global relationship with IKEA working on defining new in-store retail experiences, data driven decision tools and future strategic scenarios.
IDEO SWE
My last stop, so far, has been Sweden. Here I'm continuing to work closely with our clients in a fully remote role. In addition, I'm also co-leading the IDEO Europe Experiment cohort which encompasses all interaction, software and product designers in Europe. Building new rituals, pushing the edges of our crafts and creating an environment for growth.
In 2022 I got the opportunity to spend some time working with an NGO on the border between Ukraine and Poland building out digital tools and services to better serve newly displaced refugees. This work has been one of the projects that brought me the highest highs and lowest lows seeing first-hand the best in humankind and the worst.
